Cyber resilience

Water and wastewater systems play an important role in critical infrastructure. The safety of such facilities depends on cyber security solutions and procedures. When it comes to security, there can be absolutely no compromise.

Water installations are controlled by industrial automation systems and managed via computer networks, and cyber security is crucial. Those installations must be taken care of at all levels: from designing systems and software and managing software updates to responding to incidents and analysing attacks.
Tools for monitoring plant operations in the water industry make it easier to quickly detect anomalies that could be the first signs of a cyber-attack.

Defense-in-depth – a holistic approach

Defense-in-depth is a strategy that uses multiple layers of security to protect an organisation’s assets. Its goal is to stop threats at various stages, even if one line of defense is breached. It includes not only hardware and software, but also people (after all, human error is a leading cause of security breaches).

For many years Mitsubishi Electric has been successful with its defense-in-depth strategy. Cyber security has long been at the core of how we operate and what we produce, and it continues to be so today.

IEC 62443-4-1 certification assures that all factory automation products are manufactured according to secure development lifecycle principles. Certification facilitates cyber security on each level: from early concept to deployment in customer infrastructure and support during everyday operations (including firmware updates).

Mitsubishi Electric also has a very well established PSIRT (Product Security Incident Response Team) to provide you with guidance in case of an incident.

White paper – Cyber security

A thorough "defense in-depth" strategy is essential for OT cybersecurity. This involves strengthening and protecting operational technology across multiple layers: human, physical, device, and network. Discover more in our White paper Comprehensive Guide to Safeguarding Operational Technology.
